Children’s Dentistry

Our experienced dentists offer a professional but relaxed dental experience for children

Children can be nervous on their first few visits to the dentist, but it is essential to get them into a good dental routine, and regular visits to the dentist are part of this. At Wellard Dental, we strive to offer a fun and relaxed environment for children visiting the surgery, with friendly staff and plenty of toys to keep them occupied while they wait for their visit.

First visits

Bringing children to us before they turn two will allow them to get used to regular appointments and will allow our dental team to check that their teeth are coming through normally.

Baby teeth are very important to overall oral health, as they create space for adult teeth and play a vital role in developing the jaw and helping children speak and eat comfortably. It is important therefore, that baby teeth are checked to ensure they have come through normally since treatment now can help avoid problems down the line.

Losing baby teeth

Once your child has lost their baby teeth, usually between the ages of six to eight years, it is essential to ensure that they take care of their permanent teeth as they come through. Around this time they may start using fluoride toothpaste, and may need guidance on the right brushing technique when they start brushing by themselves.

Accidents

Many visits to our dentists are from children who have lost teeth, with active kids often knocking teeth out during sports or play. If your child loses a tooth, it is essential to call our team and get some advice and an emergency appointment since placing the teeth back in the socket can cause damage to emerging adult teeth.

Experience

Our team have plenty of experience working with children and understand their unique dental needs. This ensures that they can offer appropriate advice, and can help offer a program that keeps their growing teeth healthy.

If you need to make an appointment for your child, whether it is for a routine check-up or the result of an emergency, simple pick up the phone and our friendly staff would be happy to accommodate your needs.
