Wisdom Teeth Removal

Wisdom tooth removal can alleviate painful infections and crooked or overcrowded teeth

Emerging during the teenage or young adult years, wisdom teeth are well-known for the wide array of dental problems that they can cause. Situated at the back of the jaw, they are the last four teeth to appear and can emerge from the gum where there is insufficient room to grow. In some cases, they can also come out at awkward, painful angles.

Wisdom tooth problems

Unorthodox growth angles can place unnecessary pressure on the jaw bone and teeth, especially if a wisdom tooth comes out sideways. In serious cases, they can get stuck underneath the teeth in front. This leads to the teeth becoming impacted, meaning that they only partially emerge from the gums and often grow askew.

In addition to causing pain and discomfort, wisdom teeth can also alter the position of your other teeth, leaving them crooked or overcrowded. They can also interfere with your bite if left untreated. Other common oral symptoms caused by wisdom teeth include tenderness, swelling, gum disease, tooth decay, ulcers and cysts.

Wisdom tooth extraction

In the event that complications arise, the best treatment is to extract the problem tooth or teeth as soon as possible. In general, you have two choices when removing wisdom teeth: oral or intravenous sedation via local anaesthetic. These will be safely administered by our qualified onsite anaesthetist.

If you or any of your family members are currently experiencing any of the above symptoms, please call our dental centre today and arrange a consultation. Our specialists will conduct a full case evaluation and supply detailed explanations of all available options. By working together, we will create a dental treatment plan tailored to suit your needs.

Please note: Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding with a surgical or invasive procedure, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
